I've also just joined the list.
I'm interested in contributing to an implementation
of saol. I'm mainly interested in an implementation
that would support real-time.
One approach I've toyed with is writing a front end
to GCC. This would give compiled speed and immediate
support for the phenomenal number of processor
architectures supported by GCC (with more and more
DSP architectures being added).
Of course the downside of this is the time to
compile, but GCC speeds are really good for C
code. Compile times are significantly worse
for the complexities of C++, though they
are getting better.
Of course, I would also like to see graphical
front ends. I too am impressed by systems
like SuperCollider.
