Hi,
I'd like to announce that I've chosen my programming project topic for this year:
"A visual authoring tool for SAOL".
Proposal text:
Currently, there is a lack of tools for producing SAOL/SASL in a
user-friendly way. This means that existing/emerging decoders
and other technology dealing with SAOL/SASL cannot be tested
extensively because not enough test-material is available.
To solve the problem, an easy environment should be designed such
that musicians not really familiar with advanced synthesis can also
produce SAOL/SASL programs.
To provide a user-friendly way of producing SAOL/SASL code,
this project proposes a visual interface to design and arrange
SAOL programs (more or less like existing applications:
the Nord Modular editing software, http://www.clavia.se/,
and Staccato Systems SynthBuilder).
The application will provide different features and levels
of editing, in such a way that different types of users can
conveniently use it.
The output of the application is SAOL code which can then
be processed by available tools.
The implementation language is C++ with Qt, and the code will
be open source by the end of the project.
All comments are welcome,
Bert Schiettecatte.
