This is what the bitstream format is about. The SA .MP4 format (as
produced by saenc, distributed with saolc) assembles orchestras,
scores, MIDI files, and samples into a single compressed representation
suitable for network tranmission. saolc can synthesize sound directly
from this format; sfront can as well, but (I think) doesn't support
all of the features yet.
This format is the same as the one used for streaming SA data over
a network, so it serves as a bridge between the textual operation
of saolc (which, strictly speaking, is a nonnormative function)
and the use of SA in streaming applications.
An agreed-upon XML format, especially with tools to convert back and
forth from .MP4 format, would be very useful and I encourage someone
to work on it!
