Ok,
The soundcard is a ESS MAESTRO-3i PCI, which was preinstalled in the Dell Latittude CPx650 I bought...... for there don't seem to be free drivers for this soundcard (under linux) I tried the OpenSoundSystem (www.opensoundsystem.com) the demoversion they suply works so I'll probably pay them the $30 and have a working machine........
The system doesn't have MIDI support though, so I'll have to come up with something like a USB, Parallel, Serial or PCMCIA midi connector ... ideas about that are welkom!
Peter

Peter,
Could you please describe what hardware you have. I would like (and there must be others) to know what hardware you used, the configuration, and what you installed. Thanks.
Mike
