And I also want to stress another point here: saolc is the reference software
of MPEG-4. It is released under ISO/IEC licence and only in this special
case as free-software. "In this special case" means that all the rest of
the MPEG
reference software (tens of other tools) is released in sites protected by
MPEG
passwords.
In theory each change (even a bug correction) in saolc at the current
state shall be supported by an official corrigendum. So, in my opinion if
somebody wants to put hands into saolc it is wise if in agreement with
Eric he/she changes its name, at least. Eric ?

Let's say just extensions or envisaged extensions. It helps better to keep
separate the real MPEG standard and commonly accepted add-ons...
