> My question is this: which sound card should I get?
I suggest the SB PCI 128 card as a low-endish card for
sfront under Linux, mostly because
-- It's what I own, so its the best-tested card
-- The Linux es1370.c driver is pretty stable by now,
whereas I'm not sure the SB Live driver is (haven't
been tracking it closely, though)
-- It has the minimal set of features needed for all
the things sfront does -- simulaneous audio input and
output, and low-latency MIDI input when accessed via
/dev/midi OSS/free
That said, sfront only accesses audio cards through the
OSS/Free interface, and doesn't use the less portable
features like mmap() direct access to the buffer, so
in theory any card with a good driver that has the
right features should be OK.
