We now have a small groupf registrees on saol-users@media.mit.edu.
Thank you for your interest in SAOL; I very much hope that this is
only the beginning of something big.
A couple notes of information:
When you find bugs (there are still bugs, of course) in 'saolc',
please email them directly to me at my personal email. I'll keep
a list, and about once a week I'll send it out to everyone
with workarounds when possible. I'll do a couple of interim
code releases before the next official release in mid-February.
When you find bugs, shortcomings, or inconsistancies in the
CD document, please raise them directly on the list, especially
if they're stronger than just editorial questions. It's
important to understand the difference in level between the
code and the document. The code is just a piece of software
which I've written because I felt like it. It's becoming
the official software for MPEG, but there's time for it
to evolve there. The document, on the other hand, is
rapidly coming to its final standardization -- only one
year off now -- and whether or not SAOL and the standard as
a whole end up as useful contributions depend on getting
it right the first time.
I'll be active on this list answering questions about usage
and purpose of various constructs, and generally acting as
a replacement for the unavailable documentation. In return,
I'd like everyone to post examples of what they're working
on in SAOL and ask questions publically, so that everyone
gets the benefit of the discussion.
