You will be very happy to find the papers that Andrew Horner et al. have
published, especially in the JAES (Journal of the Audio Engineering Society) on
the analysis techniques that he has developed. He has published specific
parameter sets for CMUSIC, which should translate into MP4-SA quite easily, for
numerous real instruments, including strings, bells, and others. Andrew's stuff
is excellent, and extremely efficient.

Just look through the AES journal index for Author: Horner for the past 5 to 7
volumes.
