Some things to try ...

[1] I'm assuming this is "stock" linmidi -- you went into linux/linmidi
and typed "make", and so the sfront that ran was:

sfront -latency 0.001 -timesync -aout linux -cin linmidi -orc linmidi.saol -sco linmidi.sasl

in particular, not having the -timesync flag will produce the problems
you describe.

[2] Try varying the latency upwards, try 0.002, 0.004, 0.006 -- maybe
0.001 is too small for your soundcard/machine combination

[3] Does linvoc work correctly?

If these don't work, send me details on setup (soundcard, ect) and we
can try to work the problem off of the mailing list -- I just checked
my own Linux machine, running Redhat with a PCI128 soundcard, and linmidi
works fine, so I don't think sfront 0.54 broke anything generic ...
