runtime-vs-static-compilation benchmarks: lessons for SAOL?

Hi everyone,

        Quick pointer to a benchmark comparison of compiled and
interpeted Java and C code:

        While our set of issues in SAOL with respect to static
compilation vs. more dynamic techniques are unique, there may be
something to learn by looking at how things are playing out in
the Java story in this regard ... another surprising thing from
this story is how gcc (the max-C yellow curves) fares against
MS C, which may be relevant for sfront users -- in short, its
more of a draw (MS C wins some, gcc wins others) that I was
expecting, given the tremendous resources Redmond pours into
MSVC ...
