I'm new to this list and have know idea howmany of you are listening.
I'm currently developping software to grafically define instruments and
effect processing modules. My first idea was to use java for this. Now I
heard about mpeg4 and SAOL I'm investigating using SAOL. But I'm new
to SAOL and do not know if there are important limitations that could make
it less suitable for my project.
One clear advantage would be the ability to generate mpeg4 compliant streams
that will play on mpeg4 players.
The most important question about mpeg4-audio I have now is:
Is it possible to play real time. That is: is it possible to send an instrument start
command without a start and end time. The instrument should be instantiated
immediatly and start playing until some instrument end command. The duration
is not know in advance. Is that possible?
I hope someone can point me into the right direction for this question.
