addenda on sfront 0.56 win issues ...

Hi Everyone,

After more experimentation, I can safely
say that gcc 2.7 creating DOS binaries (whether
under Win/DOS itself or as a cross-compiler) isn't
able to create a robust sfront binary -- I went
back to truly ancient sfront's, and was able to
reproduce the errors reported earlier. Given that
the only pre-built cross-compilers I could find
were based on gcc 2.7, I've decided to discontinue
doing a binary Windows distribution for sfront --
from now on, there will be a Linux binary pair,
and a pair of generic source distributions that
should compile under UNIX and Windows.

The only open issue is whether the gcc
2.9X compiler series, running under DOS, also
has this problem -- this is the version of gcc
currently offered for download on the sfront
page for compiler-less Windows users. Since I'm
borrowing someone else's machine to do these
experiments, I'm a bit reticent to update his
compiler installation for him :-) -- so, if
anyone out could try out building the sfront
0.56 using the 2.9X compiler on the website
under Windows, and let me know one way or the
other, I'll update the webpage accordingly.

Sorry about all the interruptions on
this issue, I guess that old maxim from my VLSI
design world -- "if you don't test it, it doesn't
work" -- counts for software too :-)
