I am a 3rd year student at the Conservatoire of Music in Paris. My activities as an artist and as a sound engineer are oriented to innovative technologies. I am particularly interested in creating interactive audio worlds.

I examined recently the MPEG-4 normalisation. The principles of Structured Audio, as a part of an object-oriented standard, were a good basis for my reflection. At http://iawo.ctw.net/English_index.htm is a synthesis of that job, that is an overview of the tools available to create and manipulate audio-objects.

During the 4th year at the Conservatoire, I will be doing a research around interactive audio. Some of the questions that could be treated are:
a.. What is the reaction of the user in front of an interactive product. Is he interested, or desoriented ? Does he feel inside the music, or is it even harder for him to listen ?
b.. How could the composer use this new freedom ? What limits should he give ?
c.. Conception and use of intuitive tools (from object oriented techniques) for composing or mixing purposes.
I am still trying to precise the subject. Maybe some of you will have ideas or contacts in that domain ?

N.D.
