----It's amazing a bug like this could have lasted for several years -- the act of writing out the more complicated audio drivers (including the linux, windows, and macos driver) scribbled over a few kilobytes of sfront global memory space.
As it turned out, the globals being scribbled over had served their purpose by the time the overflow happened ... and so the bug didn't cause functional errors. Alignment issues in OS X caused a core dump to unmask the problem.
