Hi Dan,

[I took this off of saol-dev because I don't think it's relevant there.]

Well, I like to think that the writing itself is pretty clear :), but
of course you'd never want to start with a standards document as
your first introduction to a topic.

At this very moment, the best place to start is with a general
computer-music book. My favorite is

  C. Roads, The Computer Music Tutorial, Cambridge MA: MIT Press, 1996.

This is very big and contains a wealth of information on all sorts
of topics. The part on Digital Synthesis Languages (chapter 17)
will give a good introduction to the material that eventually
leads to Structured Audio. If you read and understand that
material, you'll be much more ready to tackle the standard.

Also, reading some Csound tutorial materials is a good place to
start. Can anyone recommend a favorite Csound tutorial?

In the next few months, there will be some more resources available.
I have written a chapter for a new multimedia book that contains
an introduction to Structured Audio at a very basic level. This
book will be out in October or November.

There is also someone who has been working on a web-based tutorial.
This person will announce its availability when it is ready.

Best,

 -- Eric
